Travel log
I travel a lot! So, I thought I'd try to collect every journey I've ever been on in one place.
↑ 2026: Göteborg, Sweden
Went on a business trip to Gothenburg.
↑ 2025: Mumbai, India
My final business trip as a PhD student. I went to AACL 2025 and got to see Mumbai. The food was crazy good and people were incredibly friendly! A bit inconvenient that they'd scheduled the conference just before Christmas, though.

↑ 2025: Montevideo, Uruguay
Good vibes and mate! That's how I'd summarize Montevideo. A chill country with a progressive society and many friendly people.

↑ 2025: Pucón, Chile
This time I actually managed to climb Villarica. I took the sleep bus down to Pucón, did some canyoning (super fun) and then the next day went on a brutal hike to this active volcano. You couldn't see any lava at the time, but a lot of (mildly toxic) smoke!

↑ 2025: Santiago, Chile
I got a second opportunity to come to Santiago as a visiting PhD student! This stay was shorter than my 2023 visit, but I still managed to see a lot. I had palta every day!

↑ 2025: Göteborg, Sweden

↑ 2025: Tromsø, Norway
The last meeting of the Federated Health project that I'd worked in during my PhD studies. Always a pleasure visiting Tromsø!

↑ 2025: Andorra la Vella, Andorra
With Barcelona being super expensive, we fled the country and went to Andorra. We hiked in the mountains and went to one of Andorra la Vella's many spas.

↑ 2025: Barcelona, Spain
My second cousin got married in Barcelona! Beautiful ceremony and a great party. Also managed to do some sightseeing before continuing to Andorra.

↑ 2025: Vienna, Austria
After our engagement in Salzburg, Okra and I traveled on to Vienna in Austria. We did some sightseeing and admired the city's impressive architecture. Then, Okra went back to Sweden as I participated in ACL 2025. I had the honour of presenting my paper there orally. A great finale of a wonderful trip, and my PhD. The trip back was by train. The Vienna-Hamburg sleeper train was surprisingly nice!

↑ 2024: Linköping, Sweden

↑ 2024: Litochoro, Greece
Drove to Litochoro to climb Mount Olympos! It was really beautiful, but I learned the hard way why it's important to return before the sun sets...

↑ 2024: Oslo, Norway

↑ 2023: Hanga Roa, Rapa Nui
Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is one of the remotest islands in the world. It's also part of Chile which, despite the four-hour flight, is the closest land mass. It's also super beautiful! Very cool to see the Maoi statues. Had a great time with my parents (and ate a tonne of amazing tuna).

↑ 2023: Torres del Paine, Chile
Everyone was telling me that I had to go to Torres del Paine. I see why! It was really beautiful. I couldn't do the O or W tracks because I only had a weekend, so I drove between Puerto Natales and the Torres del Paine each day. Tiring, but worth it in the end.

↑ 2023: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
My friend Fredrik was coming to visit me in Chile. Since I was already in Latin America (and momentarily forgot that the continent is enormous), I figured I'd take the opportunity to meet him in Rio first.

↑ 2023: Valdivia, Chile
I spent one night in Valdivia. It was a nice city! Many signs of German heritage. Also: sea lions!

↑ 2023: Pucón, Chile
I went to Pucón to climb volcanoes! Originally, I was going to climb the Villarica volcano. However, the risk of an eruption was to great, so I climbed Quetrupillán instead. Also did rafting!

↑ 2023: Santiago, Chile
In 2023, I got an opportunity of a lifetime: to spend three and a half months as a visiting PhD student in Santiago. Although I was far away from home, I got visits from Okra, Hercules, Fredrik, and my parents. I fell completely in love with Chile and its culture. The timing of my visit was also very special, since I came right before the commemoration of the military coup in 1973. I learned a lot being there, had countless completos, and saw so many beautiful places.

↑ 2022: Helsingfors, Finland
It took me 27 years to finally see Finland. It was worth the wait! Okra showed me Helsinki, its suprisingly good night life, and its many saunas.

↑ 2021: Tromsø, Norway
Ironically, my first trip AFTER the pandemic was also to Norway. This trip was also my first time traveling as a PhD student. I went to Tromsø to visit the research group led by my (then) supervisor Hercules who is a guest professor there.

↑ 2019: Oslo, Norway
This trip was the last time I traveled before the covid pandemic. As always, I had a great time hanging out with my Norwegian family.

↑ 2004: Isfahan, Iran
Without realizing it, we had booked our trip during Muharram. Isfahan was a bit different than how I remembered it. We didn't stay for Ashura, though.

↑ 2004: Teheran, Iran
My first time visiting Iran, the beautiful country of which I've been a citizen since birth.

↑ 1999: Scottsdale, USA

↑ 1997: Tokyo, Japan
My family and I lived in Japan between 1997 and 2002. No, I never learned Japanese... :(
